Tawny Owl Update
Back to the wild
We are delighted to report that the lovely little tawny owlet, discovered at the end of May, has made a full recovery and has been successfully released back into the wild.
This little owlet was discovered in poor condition, by our Guest Porter Dup, having either fallen from its nest or more likely taken by a crow and dropped.
It was handed over to the UKs leading specialist Bird of Prey Charity Raptor Rescue and has been lovingly reared by Mike and Carol over several months. As the little owl grew in strength and developed its beautiful plumage it was moved to a smaller house prior to its release – shown in the picture, it is the larger owl in the foreground.
On release the Tawny returned a couple of times for food, but it is thought it is now co-habiting with the owl community in the nearby woodland. Although Tawny owls create their own territory they are friendly and social towards other Tawny owls.
One of the highlights of staying in a Hive in the woodland at Wildhive, is being immersed in the varied bird life and hearing the owls hooting at night.
