Hopton Hall Gardens Month of Art
During the month of July, Hopton Hall Gardens are inviting amateur and professional artists to paint the hall and gardens. Visitors are welcome to explore the beautiful rose gardens and see the artists' painting. At the end of the month Hopton Hall will offer both a professional and amateur artist a £1000 commission to be permanently displayed at the Hall. To take part, simply turn up and get creative. The garden is open from Thursday to Sunday 10.30am-4pm. £5 per adult / £2.50 per child. Pop-up Café. Free Parking.

Buxton International Festival
Named one of the Top 50 Festivals nationally and internationally by the Sunday Times. Experience world-class opera, books, jazz, music and much more.
A highlight this year is the The Land of Might-Have-Been. This musical production has a lovely local angle, as it’s about the life and loves of Vera Brittain – the pacifist, feminist and best selling author of Testament of Youth who lived in Buxton. It stars Audrey Brisson (Olivier-award nominee for her West End performance in Amelie The Musical) and features the music of Ivor Novello. There are additional compositions from Iain Farrington – who was commissioned by King Charles to create a piece at the Coronation.

Buxton Festival Fringe
Running alongside the world-renowned Buxton International Festival, the Fringe has established itself as an innovative and respected festival with comedy, drama, poetry, film and exhibitions at its heart. The Fringe provides opportunities for artists to perform and exhibit in a receptive environment where they can feel free to experiment and take risks.
8th - 9th July
Ultra Challenge Peak District
The meeting point is Bakewell for the start of the Ultra Challenge aimed at adventurers who wish to test themselves in the varied terrain of the Peak District. Aimed at all fitness levels with walks from 10 miles that pass Chatsworth House through to the ultimate 100km taking in the most beautiful scenery in the National Park. Plenty of food options, welfare services and car parking, available throughout the weekend. Return to Wildhive to freshen up under rainfall showers, some delicious food and then off to bed for a restful night in oversize beds with natural linen.
Sunday 16th July
Bakewell Country Festival
Established in 1819, the Bakewell Country Festival has reimagined itself over the years to attract a modern audience. There is something for all the family at this fun packed day including numerous livestock breeds, country crafts, alpacas, small animal handling, vintage tractors, horse and dog shows, music, talks, food and drink.
22nd - 23rd July
Macmillan Mighty Hikes Challenge
Be inspired to run, walk or jog for this remarkable charity by taking part in the Peak District Mighty Hike for Macmillan Cancer. Commencing at Bakewell, choose between a full marathon on 22nd July or half marathon on 23rd July. Both routes follow a hilly but clearly marked route with pit stops for snacks and drinks. Finishers receive a medal and bubbly! Registration closes one week before the event.
28th - 29th July
Hardwick Hall Great British Food Festival
Meet Michelin-star trained chef Jonny Marsh who feeds premier league footballers and Sandy D from the Great British Bake-Off. Sign up the children for Kids Cookery, join a Foraging Walk and enjoy plenty of delicious British food at the Artisan Market. Your ticket includes entry to Hardwick Hall (National Trust) and the event is dog friendly... sausages!
5th August
Dovedale Big & Little Dipper
Open to runners or walkers, this challenging trail event starts and finishes in Hartington. There is a choice of distances on two routes in the White Peak area. The Big Dipper (27 miles) explores the Dove and Manifold valleys with some spectacular views. The Little Dipper (15 miles) is a more leisurely route via Sheen and Alstonefield but still climbs to a total ascent of 2500ft. Open to all ages from young adults regardless of ability, this is a great opportunity to enjoy the beautiful trails and hills that surround us.
12th & 13th / 26th, 27th & 28th August
Tissington Craft Fair
Borrow a bike and cycle the Tissington Trail to the pretty village of Tissington. Pop into the village hall and meet the makers at the Craft Fair who bring their hand crafted skills to a beautiful selection of artisan products from felting to ceramics. Refreshments at Herbert’s Tea Rooms.
17th, 18th & 19th August
Luna Outdoor Cinema at Chatsworth House
Is there a more perfect setting to enjoy Pride and Prejudice than the very place some of the scenes were filmed. Sit under the stars with Chatsworth House and Gardens as the perfect backdrop for you to enjoy these movie classics. Food and drink stalls with click-and-collect service and upgraded seat options available.
